It is interesting that when Saint Benedict speaks of solitaries (hermits, anchorites) he says that they should be monks who have already had long years of experience in community before they undertake the solitary life.

The important thing is that a Christian is actually never alone spiritually, since we are all members of One Body (like it or not). As a wise rector of mine once said, “There is only one thing a Christian can do wholly alone: that is, to be damned!”

Like-minded or not, I find that I need my church community. And sometimes we are quite unlike-minded! There IS a reason that the church is called the Body of Christ. We ARE interconnected. Thanks, RB, for reminding me of what I already knew, but sometimes forget.
